The Rudgate Story

Rudgate Brewery was established in 1992, and is based in the heart of Yorkshire in the historic Vale of York.

The old Roman road of Rudgate runs through the former RAF Marston Moor airfield, and it was in the original ammunition building during Autumn 1992 that our brewery was born. The road gave us our name, and the close ties to nearby York (Jorvik) with its rich Viking heritage inspired our first range of beers.

From modest beginnings came great things. Our beers became multi-award-winning and demand soon exceeded capacity. In 2011, a new SALSA-accredited brewhouse was built, allowing both our production and range to expand. Core beers remain central to what we do, alongside outstanding seasonal brews and an ever-growing portfolio of bottled and kegged beers.

In 2022, we launched our first lagers — ‘Pilsnor’, a crisp and classic Pilsner, and ‘Hus’, a fruity, light lager — both available in bottle and 50Lkeg. In 2025, we proudly added ‘Ragnar’, our first vegan and gluten-free beer, crafted to meet modern tastes without compromise.
